A swing check valve is a type of check valve that uses a disc to prevent backflow. The disc is mounted on a hinge and is held in the open position by a spring. When fluid flows in the forward direction, the disc is forced open by the pressure of the fluid. When the flow stops or reverses, the disc swings shut and prevents backflow.
Swing check valves are typically used in applications where there is a need to prevent backflow, such as in pipelines, tanks, and vessels. They are also used in applications where there are high pressure or flow rates.
